I just installed SVC 4.0 Build 10. I created a new project and placed a VB6 project into SVC. When I check-out the project, the files are not readable by VB6. Any ideas? P.S. Clicking on "Purchase SVC" takes me to a web page for InnoScript? How do I purchase SVC or donate to the website? |

Aloha dbmaven, You can donate on the SVC webpage at http://www.randem.com/svc.html Look for "Support SVC". I will check on the addition/extraction of the project. |

dbmaven, I just check-in a VB6 project folder then checked it out to another folder and it opened as expected. Could you give me a little background on the process you are using? The Registration page has been updated to include SVC. Thanks. |

I'm using the SQL Server version. I checked out my code to the same folder. Maybe that was the problem. |

Not sure... But that is one thing one should never do is to check files out into the development environment. Let me know of your testing results. |

I tried checking out to another directory. Same problem. The files seem to be corrupted. How do I recover these files? |

What are the steps you are taking for checkout? Did you get any errors on Check-In? Could you post the vbp file so that I can take a look? |

No errors with the checkin. I tried checking out individual files and the entire project. |

I looked at your file and the reason it is not able to be loaded is because it is saved in Unicode format. I will look further into this. |

If the Unicode parameter for the SQL database in the ini file is UniCode = False, Set it to True and try to check the files out again. Let Me know... |

It was set to True. I tried setting to to False and then checked out the project again. The vbp file is corrupted. |

Look in the database in the table "ProgramList" for the vbp file and tell me what the field ACT_LTH is and what the Windows file size is and also what the field LTH in the table "ProgramData" is. |

BTW: you can convert a UniCode text file by opening it in notepad then cut and paste it to a new text file. |

Try this file to export your data. Just replace the one in the folder where you installed SVC. Is there anyway to get a screen shot of the programlist and programdata tables. A copy of the whole database would be helpful. |

I placed the new exe in the Program directory where SVC runs from. Now, when I try to check out anything it locks up? |

I need to see the tables in your database. None of those things happen here. Look in the titles table for your project find the SYS_ID then look in the programlist table for the LTH and ACT_LTH fields and the programdata table for the LTH field. It could be easier to export the database to Access then post that. |

Here is a back up of the SQL Server database. I restore my projects so I can reinstall SVC and start over if needed. |

I seemed to have found the problem. Your database seems to be storing data in Wide Character Format not UniCode. I am researching this... |

Ok, found the problem. It was in the creation of the table ProgramData for the field Data. It was set incorrectly as text when it should have been varbinary (max). If you need the text project, I can retrieve them. I have uploaded new scripts for SQL Server and a new update installation. Replacing the exe won't do. Sorry for the inconvience and thank you for bringing this to our attention. |

That setting seems to have migrated from when the software only handled text files. it was never changed in the script. Let me know how it works... |

In your script for the ProgramData table, your have "[DATA] [varbinary](max) NULL," listed? Did you mean the max length of a varbinary field, 8000? The max setting doesn't work so I put in 8000 to continue testing. |

On my first import, I see this error dealing with the Programdata.data column.

Did you use the new script that is on the website to create the database? |

There should be no limit to a varbinary field. This is the correct field type. I have tested it here. What version of SQL Server are you running? |

dbmaven, I have figured it out. In SQL Server 2000 that field needs to be IMAGE (other version of SQL Server are different). I have corrected the script and reuploaded it. I have double checked it on SQL Server 2000 for accuratcy and all is well. Thanks for your time and sorry for the inconvience... BTW: SVC also supports SQL Server Express 2005. |
